Listening Session: Sexual and Gender Minority Research

October 22, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

NIH Sexual & Gender Minority Research Office (SGMRO) Announces Listening Session on Sexual and Gender Minority Research

Sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations include, but are not limited to, individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer, and/or intersex. Section 404N of the 21st Century Cures Act (Public Law 114-255), signed into law on December 13, 2016, calls upon the Director of the NIH to encourage efforts to improve research related to the health of SGM populations. To achieve this goal, in part, the SGMRO will host a listening session with the SGM community. The primary objectives of the listening session are: (1) to hear from community stakeholders about what issues are on their minds regarding SGM-related research and related activities at the NIH, and (2) to use these discussions to help inform the development of the NIH FY 2021-2025 SGM Research Strategic Plan.

The listening session will be held on October 22, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., EDT. Organizations invited to attend in person will be chosen to broadly represent the SGM community. The listening session will be publicly available to listen to at 1-877-951-0634, passcode: 6617257#. Comments, questions, or feedback will be accepted via email at SGMRO@nih.gov post-listening session.
