Good oral health involves taking care of your mouth, teeth, and gums. It is vital to your overall health and well-being no matter how old or young you are. Poor oral health has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, oral cancer, and preterm delivery. Common oral diseases include tooth decay, and periodontal diseases, which are bacterial infections that destroy the gums and bone that surround the teeth. Gingivitis is one example of a periodontal disease, which is a bacterial infection of the gums causing redness, puffiness, and/or bleeding.
