SUMMARY:2023 National Tribal Health Conference
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join the National Indian Health Board 2023 National Tribal Health Conference and Public Health Summit in Anchorage\, Alaska\, May 1-5\, 2023. As the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year\, the community continues to consider how we can best serve American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes in the space of health and public health. One way to better serve Tribal Nations and support limiting travel and time away from home is to consolidate the two national conferences into one week-long event: The NIHB National Tribal Health Conference. This will showcase the interconnectedness of policy\, advocacy\, and Indian health best practices. The event will still offer our great content\, educational offerings\, and networking. \nProgramming will include: \n\nTribal listening and consultation sessions\nHands-on training opportunities\nPlenary sessions and workshops that will cover a variety of timely topics\, such as funding for Indian Health\, the business of medicine\, health equity\, Tribal public health\, behavioral health\, environmental health\, and climate change.\nFocus areas on Native youth\, Tribal veterans\, and elders\nFitness Event\nExhibit hall and marketplace\nCulture Night\nPoster sessions\nHeroes in Health Awards Gala and Outstanding Service Awards\n\nNIHB will host smaller regional meetings as well throughout the year that will focus on specific programs and initiatives. \nPlease join in Anchorage from May 1-5\, 2023 for this event. SUMMARY:2023 Science of Patient Engagement Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Health Council (NHC) for its 2023 Science of Patient Engagement Symposium on May 8\, 2023\, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. ET\, the first in-person Symposium since 2019! Taking place at the National Press Club in Washington\, DC\, the theme for this year is Patient Empowerment in the Digital Health Era\, and will focus on digital technologies\, the science of patient engagement\, and health equity. \nDue to recent innovations and uptake in digital health\, it is more important than ever to include the patient voice in research. Sessions will explore telehealth and the digital divide\, medical device development and technology design\, artificial intelligence\, and more. \nThe Science of Patient Engagement Symposium is an annual event where research leaders convene to share their experiences\, accomplishments\, best practices\, and resulting translational impacts on the science of patient engagement. \nAttending the Science of Patient Engagement Symposium will enable you:  \n\nUnderstand the applicability of patient engagement research into action and practice in the digital age.\nIllustrate the importance of health equity integration into patient engagement research.\nIdentify synergistic research opportunities between scientists and patient advocacy groups.\nExchange innovative and thought-provoking research ideas and agendas.\n\nWho should attend? The Symposium is open to all NHC members working on patient-centered research and engagement activities. Aninye\, Society for Women’s Health Research\, Chief Science Officer \nAbout the Article: Irene O. Aninye 1\, Kathleen Digre 2\, M. Elizabeth Hartnett 2\, Kira Baldonado 3\, Erin M. Shriver 4\, Laura M. Periman 5\, Julie Grutzmacher 3\, Janine A. Clayton 6\, and Society for Women’s Health Research Women’s Eye Health Working Group 11 Society for Women’s Health Research\, 2 Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences\, University of Utah\, 3 Prevent Blindness\, Chicago\, IL\, 4 Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences\, University of Iowa\, 5 Periman Eye Institute\, Seattle\, WA\, 6 \n\nOffice of Research on Women’s Health\, National Institute of HealthIn the United States\, women are at a higher risk of developing vision impairment or a serious eye disease (such as age-related macular degeneration\, thyroid eye disease\, or glaucoma) than men. Biological sex and social determinants of health contribute to eye health disparities and inequities for women that are clinically under-addressed\, resulting in undue burden on the healthcare ecosystem. Many causes of vision impairment are preventable or treatable\, yet eye health is not prioritized in research\, policy\, or public health measures to ensure optimal outcomes. Based on an assessment of the state of science regarding sex and gender differences in women’s eye health across the lifespan\, the Society for Women’s Health Research Women’s Eye Health Working Group identified priority areas in research\, clinical care\, and education to reduce disparities and improve patient care in women’s eye health. Consensus recommendations of the working group included using a systems approach that (1) incorporates a sex and gender lens to guide a comprehensive framework for future research; (2) increases health care provider and public education; and (3) expands inter-sector partnerships among ophthalmologic providers\, researchers\, and non-vision stakeholders. DESCRIPTION:The 7th Annual Vivian W. Pinn Symposium honors the first full-time director of ORWH\, Dr. Vivian Pinn\, and is held during National Women’s Health Week. This event serves as a critical forum for experts across sectors to communicate and collaborate for the advancement of women’s health. \nThe title of this year’s symposium is “Menopause and Optimizing Midlife Health of Women.” The symposium will discuss menopausal transition\, accumulation of morbidity after menopause\, menopause in special populations\, social determinants of health\, menopausal hormonal therapy\, and interventions to promote healthy aging. \nProviding the keynote address\, “Menopausal Hormone Therapy: 30 Years of Lessons from the Women’s Health Initiative\,” is JoAnn Manson\, M.D.\, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief of the Division of Preventive Medicine\, Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  A patient advocacy panel will discuss the patient perspective of menopause. \nThe objectives of the symposium are to: \n\nFamiliarize attendees with the state of the science related to our understanding of risk factors and mechanisms that lead to reproductive aging.\nUnderstand women’s unique morbidity and multimorbidity burden to identify points of intervention.\nIdentify the needs of populations at risk for iatrogenic menopause (patients with germline inherited cancer risk) and early or complex menopausal symptoms (patients living with HIV\, chronic conditions\, and cancer).\nIdentify priorities to address unmet environmental and other exposures as it relates to menopausal transition and symptoms in diverse populations of women.\nUnderstand current recommendations on menopausal hormone therapy prescribing including when to start and stop\, and formulations and durations of use.\n\nMore details to come.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER
