SUMMARY:“Alzheimer’s Disease: Early Detection & Diagnosis Matter” Educational Conference for Health Care Professionals
DESCRIPTION:Many of people see the impact of Alzheimer’s disease firsthand in their personal lives and in clinical practices. An estimated 680\,000 individuals in New York\, New Jersey\, and Connecticut live with Alzheimer’s. Hundreds of thousands more have subjective cognitive decline but have not yet received a definitive diagnosis. \nDelays in detection and diagnosis prevent individuals from accessing vital services and therapeutics that are more effective in the early stages of dementia. Yet\, many individuals who are developing dementia or already have dementia do not receive a diagnosis or an accurate diagnosis\, according to the National Institute on Aging. Studies found more than 50% of patients with dementia had not received a clinical cognitive evaluation by a physician\, and that physicians were unaware of cognitive impairment in more than 40% of their cognitively impaired patients. \nThis interactive educational program will guide you–primary care physicians\, nurses\, and other healthcare professionals–to address current challenges and barriers that you may face due to lack of knowledge and understanding of the disorder.
