SUMMARY:The Real Cost of Chronic Disease Briefing
DESCRIPTION:How Social Determinants & Health Disparities Impact America’s Hardest Hit Populations \nOne in two Americans lives with at least one chronic condition\, but certain populations are disproportionately affected.  The full costs of chronic disease extend well beyond medical expenses\, hindering educational and economic opportunity\, and perpetuating cycles of both health and socioeconomic disparities.  Policies to assist states and localities to address social determinants of health\, such as the proposed\, bipartisan Social Determinants Accelerator Act (HR 4004)\, and health disparities such as the CDC’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health grants are needed to make a difference. \nHosted by the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease\, this congressional briefing will feature a panel of experts diving into policy challenges and solutions for the real costs of chronic disease. This briefing will address critical questions aimed at motivating change\, including: \n\nHow does chronic disease affect individual and family income and economic opportunity?\nHow does caregiving factor into economic mobility and why are some populations affected more dramatically?\nWhat can be gained from policies focused on the interplay of health status and socioeconomic status?\nWhat is being and can be done to address health equity? How will that enable economic opportunity?\n\nWHO: \n\nDonna Christensen\, M.D.\, Board Member\, Consumers for Quality Care and former Congresswoman\, Keynote and panelist\nKen Thorpe\, Chairman\, Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease\, Host and moderator\nKevin B. Kimble\, Esq.\, Southern Christian Leadership Conference\nAsian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum\n\nRegister
