SUMMARY:Let's Discuss Maternal Mortality!
DESCRIPTION:This is an in-person Congressional Briefing featuring: \nModerator: Dr. Mark Mather\, Population Reference Bureau \nSpeakers: \n\nDr. Robert Anderson\, National Center for Health Statistics\nDr. Alecia McGregor\, Harvard University\nDr. Amanda Stevenson\, University of Colorado-Boulder\n\nMaternal mortality in the United States has been rising markedly over the last decade. According to data from the National Center for Health Statistics\, U.S. maternal mortality rates are at their highest levels since 1965. Alarmingly\, black women are three times more likely than white women to die from pregnancy-related causes. There are complex social\, economic\, and health factors underlying this devastating trend\, which scientists\, public health officials\, and community leaders alike are working to address.  Population scientists\, including demographers\, economists\, sociologists\, and epidemiologists\, are making unique contributions to not only elucidate the scope of the problem\, but also to inform the development of appropriate\, targeted interventions–especially for vulnerable populations. \nPlease join hosts for ice cream and cookies and an engaging panel of experts who will discuss scientific progress being made towards understanding and preventing maternal mortality in the United States. \nThis is a widely attended event. Sponsored by PAA and the Association of Population Centers. \nRegister
