SUMMARY:NIH Inclusion Across the Lifespan II Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Background\nIn January 2019\, NIH implemented a new policy on Inclusion Across the Lifespan aimed to ensure individuals are included in clinical research in a manner appropriate to the scientific question under study so that the knowledge gained from NIH-funded research is applicable to all those affected by the researched diseases/conditions. NIH is holding a follow-up workshop to the original 2017 Inclusion Across the Lifespan workshop to examine the implementation of the NIH policy and discuss remaining opportunities for and barriers to inclusion. \nThe Inclusion Across the Lifespan II (IAL-II) workshop will be held on the NIH campus September 2-3\, 2020 \nread IAL workshop summary \nWatch videocast

SUMMARY:Focus on Fibroids: What Do Women Need for Better Care?
DESCRIPTION:The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) hosted a virtual panel discussion to raise awareness about research gaps and unmet needs related to diagnosis\, treatment\, and access to care for uterine fibroids. \nUterine fibroids are a significant public health issue affecting about 26 million American women\, with Black women at increased risk for the disease compared to white women. Fibroids are benign tumors that grow in and around the uterus\, and they can cause symptoms such as heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding and pelvic pressure or pain. \nPanelists shared their insights on how to improve the health of women with fibroids by driving innovation in research\, clinical care\, policymaking\, and education for this often overlooked\, underfunded\, and stigmatized disease. \nThis panel is part of the work of SWHR’s Endometriosis and Fibroids Network\, which seeks to engage and educate patients\, clinicians\, and health care decision-makers about the burden of these diseases\, which significantly impact the lives of the women.
