DESCRIPTION:Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease that may cause pelvic pain\, pain between periods\, back pain\, pain with sex\, infertility\, and other symptoms\, severely impacting a woman’s quality of life. An estimated 200 million individuals worldwide are living with endometriosis. SUMMARY:Supporting Our Sisters: Transforming Uterine Fibroid Awareness into Action
DESCRIPTION:The Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls hosted a virtual event raising awareness of the astounding impact of uterine fibroids on the health of women. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (D-NY) led a conversation with fibroid researchers\, clinicians\, and patient advocates on the challenges experienced by women living with this disease and the barriers to accessing to quality care and treatment. \nThe event also highlighted the importance of the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act of 2021\, which would improve funding for research and increase education about uterine fibroids. The bill was first introduced by its current namesake\, the late Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio)\, in the House of Representatives in 2001. Clarke and then-Senator (now Vice President) Kamala Harris reintroduced the legislation last year.
