SUMMARY:Our Brain\, Ourselves | 30 Years of the NIH Revitalization Act
DESCRIPTION:June 2023 will mark the 30th anniversary of the NIH Revitalization Act of 1993\, which established guidelines for the inclusion of women and minorities in all NIH-funded research. WHAM is excited to recognize the anniversary of this historic Act by hosting a series of events throughout the year\, exploring what’s changed\, what hasn’t\, and where we need to go next.\n\nWomen are disproportionately and differently impacted by diseases and conditions affecting our brains. 2/3 of the 6.7 million people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and 2/3 of the caregivers are women. Women are twice as likely as men to suffer from depression\, the leading cause of disability. Yet despite some advances in our understanding in women’s brain health\, the field continues to be understudied and underfunded and women are suffering the consequences.
