SUMMARY:Research Gaps and Opportunities to Advance Women’s Health: A Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The National Academies of Sciences\, Engineering\, and Medicine will host a public webinar highlighting research gaps and opportunities to advance women’s health featuring authors from our recent report\, A New Vision for Women’s Health Research: Transformative Change at the National Institutes of Health. \nBreakthroughs to improve health and well-being for women and girls have lagged\, in part\, due to a lack of baseline understanding of basic sex-based differences in physiology. The March 11 webinar will focus on opportunities for clinician researchers and scientists to advance women’s health. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:Work-Life-Health Balance through Menopause: A Watercooler Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Click the image above or click here to watch the recording \nMenopause is a universal life stage for women that impacts their personal and professional lives and has far-reaching economic\, social\, and health care implications for society. Approximately 6\,000 women in the United States reach menopause every day\, often with symptoms that range from hot flashes and genitourinary symptoms to brain fog and sleep disturbances. Despite the vast number of women experiencing life disruptions during the menopause transition\, accessible treatment options and guidance for navigating their care are limited. Further\, with women aged 45-54 years having a 75% participation rate in the U.S. labor workforce\, managing menopause while at work is also a key part of the transition. The cost of lost productivity associated with menopause symptoms amounts to around $1.8 billion annually. Therefore\, it is important for employers to understand women’s health experiences\, especially during menopause\, to maintain a workplace environment that is productive\, supportive\, and effective. Organizational policies that promote midlife health and wellness and support intergenerational employment are key to enabling work-life-health balance for all employees. \nSWHR hosted a public forum to discuss the impact of menopause on women’s health\, the workplace challenges that women experience during menopause\, and strategies for navigating care for their symptoms. \nThis is an SWHR Event.

SUMMARY:Live from the Lab: The Autoimmune Framework - Decoding Early Immune Signals
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Sonia Sharma\, Associate Professor at La Jolla Institute for Immunology and Director of the Center for Sex-based Differences in the Immune System\, as she unpacks the provocative world of innate immunity in this foundational framework for autoimmune disease and inflammation\, underwritten by the Global Autoimmune Institute at our next Live from the Lab webinar on Wednesday\, March 19\, 2025\, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. (PT). \nIn this session\, discover how non-immune cells—from skin to blood vessels—act as the unheralded first responders that set the stage for autoimmune reactions and inflammatory processes. Through groundbreaking genome-scale approaches and state-of-the-art techniques like RNA interference\, CRISPR/Cas9 and mass spectrometry metabolomics\, Dr. Sharma will reveal how the earliest immune signals can shape disease outcomes. Whether you’re seeking to better understand your own health or that of a loved one\, prepare for an intellectually stimulating journey that bridges cutting-edge science with practical insights for managing autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. \nHosts look forward to having you join us and welcome you to share this opportunity with family and friends that may be interested in learning more about LJI\, autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. \nQuestions for Dr. Sharma can be submitted prior to the webinar by emailing Engagement and Stewardship Officer Chelsea Luedeke at cluedeke@lji.org. Hosts will make every effort to answer as many questions as possible during the webinar. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:Perinatal Mental Health Series
DESCRIPTION:Part 1\, Overview of Perinatal Mental Health | February 26: This webinar will provide information on prevalence\, epidemiology and risk factors related to perinatal mental health disorders (PMHD). The content also includes discussion of the impact of untreated PMHD\, review of screening tools\, treatment guidelines and barriers to treatment. The focus is on providing whole-patient counseling and tailoring treatment and/or referrals that meet the needs of the individual patient. \nLearn More \nPart 2\, Perinatal Depression | March 26: This webinar will provide an overview of perinatal depression\, including review of screening tools\, treatment options and decision-making tools. The needs of breastfeeding patients will be discussed. The content also includes information on the use of integrative approaches such as psychopharmacology\, sleep support systems\, nutrition and nutraceuticals including fish oil\, Vitamin D\, folate\, and SAM-e. \nLearn More \nPart 3\, Perinatal Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder | April 23: This webinar will focus on perinatal anxiety\, obsessive-compulsive disorders\, and related conditions.
