SUMMARY:From recognition to revolution: Transforming women’s health research
DESCRIPTION:Women’s health research has long faced systemic gaps and underinvestment\, but pioneering scientists are changing that narrative. This webinar features Dr. Marlena Fejzo\, recipient of the 2024 Science & BII Women’s Health Innovation Prize\, who will discuss her groundbreaking discoveries on the genetic and hormonal basis of hyperemesis gravidarum—the severe form of morning sickness—highlighting the hormone GDF15 and her path from personal adversity to scientific breakthrough. Joining her is Prof. Linda Griffith\, whose work at MIT has reshaped our understanding of endometriosis and other complex conditions while highlighting the challenges of advancing research in an underserved area. Together\, they will explore how innovation\, advocacy\, and recognition are driving the future of women’s health. The session will conclude with a live Q&A to spark dialogue about the future of women’s health research. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:Helping Your Constituents Navigate Medicare: A Guide to Better Bone Health for Women
DESCRIPTION:This event is for congressional district directors and caseworkers assisting with Medicare enrollment\, aiming to inform them of the bone health resources available to their constituents.\n \nMore than 80% of the 10 million Americans living with osteoporosis are women. Despite being at the highest risk for this common bone disease\, many women may not be aware of all the resources that exist to manage their bone health – especially as they age and become eligible for Medicare. \nThe Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) and HealthyWomen are aiming to close the awareness gap through the release of the resource Savvy and 65: A Woman’s Guide to Understanding Medicare. \nDuring this invitation-only webinar meeting designed specifically for congressional district directors and caseworkers assisting with Medicare enrollment\, SWHR and HealthyWomen walked colleagues through this newly-launched resource\, which could be a helpful tool to their constituents as part of their Medicare journeys. \nThe free\, easy-to-use Savvy and 65 guide includes important information about Medicare coverage\, insurance interactions\, caregiver considerations\, and a dedicated chapter on items and services related to bone health that are covered under Medicare. \nThis webinar provides: \n\nA concise walkthrough of the guide\nInsights into its development\nA focused overview of how district directors can help disseminate the resource to their communities\, particularly among older women

SUMMARY:From Screening to Solutions in Gestational Diabetes Diagnostics
DESCRIPTION:Innovations in diagnostics provide access to health information\, helping women make informed decisions about their health care at every stage of their lives. Diagnostic tests and procedures offer opportunities to detect diseases earlier\, guide intervention choices\, and monitor and evaluate treatment effectiveness. Some diagnostic tests are invasive\, such as a biopsy or endoscopy\, whereas others are noninvasive\, such as x-rays and ultrasound imaging procedures. \nScreening and diagnostic testing can help improve health outcomes and contribute toward reducing health disparities among women. Research seeking to expand the development and availability of diagnostic tools for conditions that exclusively\, differently\, or disproportionately affect women is invaluable in furthering women’s health across sectors. \nSWHR is hosting a series of public forums to share educational information about the importance and value of innovative diagnostics throughout the lifespan and across disease states and conditions. The events discuss how to improve health outcomes for diseases and conditions that disproportionately or differently affect women\, with special a focus on maternal health. \nThe 2025 SWHR Value of Diagnostics within Women’s Health series includes: \n\nApplying Pressure to Diagnose Preeclampsia Better and Earlier (September 29\, 2025)\nFrom Screening to Solutions in Gestational Diabetes Diagnostics (November 20\, 2025)\n\nThis is an SWHR Event.
