SUMMARY:Women’s Mental Health Across the Life Course: Stakeholder Meeting on Maternal Health
DESCRIPTION:Maternal health\, including mental health\, is an urgent concern of policymakers\, clinicians and researchers. This discussion on the intersection between maternal health and women’s mental health across the life course is designed to drive change on this very important issue. \nThis stakeholder meeting will build on the March 2018 Committee on Population workshop\, Women’s Mental Health across the Life Course through a Sex-Gender Lens\, sponsored by the Office of Women’s Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The stakeholder event will focus on research gaps and policy/practice implications of the research\, with particular attention to maternal mental health. National experts will present how factors from adolescence through later life shape women’s mental health trajectories. There will be an emphasis on research\, data\, programs and policies needed to provide the evidence for sound policy and practice recommendations. \nView the meeting agenda here. \nRegister

SUMMARY:The Next Generation of Value-Based Arrangements: What Are the Stakes for Patients?
DESCRIPTION:On December 4th\, NEHI will convene leading payers\, biopharmaceutical manufacturers\, and patient advocates on Capitol Hill to consider “The Next Generation of Value-Based Arrangements: What Are the Stakes for Patients?” \nValue-based arrangements are an emerging payment model under which payers or pharmaceutical benefit managers and biopharmaceutical manufacturers agree to specific terms that tie payment to results\, based on a drug’s actual impact on patients in real world medical practice. \nWhile perspectives differ on the benefits and challenges to expanding value-based agreements\, many analysts believe a new generation of value-based arrangements will play an essential role in any national strategy on coverage and payment of drugs. As health care leaders and policy makers explore the next generation of value-based arrangements\, it is critical to examine what is at stake for patients and bring the patient perspective to these discussions. Join NEHI as they explore key questions: \n\nWhat do patients have to gain or lose from a new generation of value-based arrangements?\nHow should a “next generation” of value-based arrangements address patient needs\, preferences and values?\nHow can we make next generation value-based arrangements truly patient-focused?

SUMMARY:Changing the Way the World Thinks about Eating Disorders
DESCRIPTION:Genetic research has encouraged us to think not only about the psychiatric aspects of anorexia nervosa\, but also about metabolic factors. Anorexia nervosa can be life threatening and strikes individuals of all genders and backgrounds. Recent advances in genetic research have revealed significant genetic correlations not only with other psychiatric disorders\, but also with a broad range of metabolic and anthropometric (body measurement) factors. This work leads us to question whether we could improve outcomes of illness by intervening on both psychiatric and metabolic levels. Dr. Bulik will also introduce the next generation of research\, namely the Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative (EDGI). \nPresented by:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCynthia Bulik\, Ph.D.\n\n\n\n\n\nUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\nDistinguished Professor of Eating Disorders\nDepartment of Psychiatry\, School of Medicine\nProfessor of Nutrition\, Gillings School of Global Public Health\nFounding Director\, UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nModerated by:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJeffrey Borenstein\, M.D.\n\n\n\n\n\nBrain & Behavior Research Foundation\nPresident and CEO\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:The Real Cost of Chronic Disease Briefing
DESCRIPTION:How Social Determinants & Health Disparities Impact America’s Hardest Hit Populations \nOne in two Americans lives with at least one chronic condition\, but certain populations are disproportionately affected.  The full costs of chronic disease extend well beyond medical expenses\, hindering educational and economic opportunity\, and perpetuating cycles of both health and socioeconomic disparities.  Policies to assist states and localities to address social determinants of health\, such as the proposed\, bipartisan Social Determinants Accelerator Act (HR 4004)\, and health disparities such as the CDC’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health grants are needed to make a difference. \nHosted by the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease\, this congressional briefing will feature a panel of experts diving into policy challenges and solutions for the real costs of chronic disease. This briefing will address critical questions aimed at motivating change\, including: \n\nHow does chronic disease affect individual and family income and economic opportunity?\nHow does caregiving factor into economic mobility and why are some populations affected more dramatically?\nWhat can be gained from policies focused on the interplay of health status and socioeconomic status?\nWhat is being and can be done to address health equity? How will that enable economic opportunity?\n\nWHO: \n\nDonna Christensen\, M.D.\, Board Member\, Consumers for Quality Care and former Congresswoman\, Keynote and panelist\nKen Thorpe\, Chairman\, Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease\, Host and moderator\nKevin B. Kimble\, Esq.\, Southern Christian Leadership Conference\nAsian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Bladder Cancer in Women: The Unspoken Demographic
DESCRIPTION:Bladder Cancer | More common in men. More lethal in women? What should you know? Bladder cancer has long been considered a disease of older men. Though more prevalent in men\, studies have shown that women of any age and race\, are more likely to present with more advanced tumors and have a worse prognosis than men\, at almost every stage of the disease. In this webinar\, medical oncologist Dr. Jean Hoffman-Censits of John’s Hopkins Medical and urologist Dr. Sima Porten of the University of California San Francisco\, discuss:\n\nDifferences in the signs\, symptoms and diagnosis of bladder cancer in women\nUnique nuances for treating women with bladder cancer\nThe impact of common bladder cancer treatments on women’s quality of life\nThe need for more research into age and gender differences in bladder cancer\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER
