SUMMARY:Opportunities for Innovation in HPV-Related Disease
DESCRIPTION:The Society for Women’s Health Research hosted a virtual public forum on the need for innovation in HPV-related disease screening and treatment for women. Human papillomavirus (HPV) — the most common sexually transmitted infection — can cause cervical\, anal\, vaginal\, vulvar\, and oropharyngeal cancers. Women deserve better than the limited and invasive treatment options currently available. \nIn this webinar\, panelists discuss the innovations in research\, policy\, and education that are needed to improve health outcomes for women with HPV-associated cancers and pre-cancers. \nThis public webinar is a follow-up to SWHR’s expert roundtable earlier this year that sought to identify gaps in research\, clinical practice\, policy\, and education for HPV-associated diseases.

SUMMARY:COVID-19 Testing: Current Policy Landscape and Challenges
DESCRIPTION:In the face of the greatest public health threat in more than a century\, clinical laboratories have introduced a range of new tests and techniques to meet widespread patient need for COVID-19 testing\, including the development of the at-home specimen collection kits\, the expanded use of specimen pooling and multiplex testing\, and the launch of novel RNA extraction methods. Simultaneously\, over the course of this public health crisis\, the federal protections Congress promised to patients have significantly eroded\, resulting in a patchwork coverage system that drives uncertainty and undermines return-to-work and return-to-school efforts. \nToday\, as COVID-19 cases surge across the country\, access to accurate and reliable testing remains critical. Join Dr. Jay Wohlgemuth\, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Research and Development\, Medical and Population Health at Quest Diagnostics\, and Julie Khani\, President of the American Clinical Laboratory Association for an overview on the state of testing and a conversation about the important work that remains to ensure all patients have access to the tests they need. \nWhen: Tuesday\, November 17 at 1PM ET \nPlease RSVP to lserio@acla.com

SUMMARY:Scientific Conference: CBD and Other Cannabinoids: Sex and Gender Differences in Use and Responses
DESCRIPTION:The FDA Office of Women’s Health is hosting a public meeting to discuss potential sex (biological) and gender (psychosocial) differences in use and responses to cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids. Researchers\, educators\, clinicians\, and patients may benefit from attending this multidisciplinary scientific conference on CBD and other cannabinoids. Presentations will address patient and healthcare provider perspectives on CBD and other cannabinoid use\, sex differences in the effects of CBD and other cannabinoids\, use of CBD and other cannabinoids in pregnancy\, and government agency perspectives on CBD research and evaluation. \nFDA recognizes the significant public interest in cannabis and cannabis-derived compounds\, particularly CBD. However\, there are many unanswered questions about the science\, safety\, and quality of products containing CBD. The Agency is working on answering these questions through ongoing efforts including feedback from a FDA hearing and information and data gathering through a public docket. This public meeting will provide further insight into the scientific evidence suggesting the presence or absence of sex and gender differences in use and responses to CBD and other cannabinoids. Conditions for which CBD is often marketed\, such as chronic pain\, anxiety\, depression\, and sleep disturbances\, are more prevalent in women than men. Therefore\, consideration of issues pertaining to the safety of CBD products may be particularly important to address in women. In addition\, use of CBD and other cannabinoids during pregnancy is an important public health concern that will be highlighted at this meeting. \nRegister now
