SUMMARY:Closing the women's health gap: The $1 trillion opportunity
DESCRIPTION:As you may have seen in The Guardian\, Fortune\, and Forbes\, the McKinsey Health Institute’s latest report in collaboration with the World Economic Forum\, Closing the women’s health gap: A $1 trillion opportunity to improve lives and economies\, has sized the health and economic returns of investing in women’s health. Even though women live longer on average\, they also spend 25% more time in poor health than men\, and most of this health burden happens during their working years. McKinsey found a $1 trillion economic opportunity that\, if harnessed\, could unlock up to 75 million years of higher quality life for women (or 7 days annually per woman on average) from closing this health gap. \nLeading up to International Women’s Day\, the hosts look forward to a rich discussion that will touch on: \n\nFindings from our recent report highlighting the root causes of the women’s health gap\, and how to address it\nMyths\, challenges\, and opportunities in women’s health\nActions stakeholders can take to accelerate progress and innovation to help close the gap\n\nPanelists bring a wealth of cross-industry perspectives on this topic – \n\nDavid Walcott\, Founder and Managing Partner at Novamed\nJennifer Schneiders\, President of Diagnostic Solutions at Hologic\nJuan Camilo Arjona Ferreira\, Head of Research & Development\, Chief Medical Officer at Organon\nNigina Muntean\, Chief of Innovation at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)\nSahil Tesfu\, Chief Strategy Officer at Essity\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Specificity of changes and importance of maternal well-being during pregnancy
DESCRIPTION:Pregnancy is accompanied by important physiological and affective changes due to strong hormonal surges. Among other things\, pregnancy induces lasting changes in the mother’s brain structure and function; in particular\, women lose grey matter. These important changes in the brain\, which begin during pregnancy and persist for at least two years after delivery\, are said to prepare the mother for the demands of caring for her baby. However\, since these changes occur in the regions involved in social interactions\, such as the perception and interpretation of the desires\, emotions\, intentions and moods of others or oneself\, according to scientific research\, these unique alterations can also affect fetal development. Children born to women who report perinatal anxiety (stress) or mood difficulties are twice as likely to experience mental health problems across childhood and into adolescence. Thus\, how can it be explained that so little attention is paid to the specific mental health needs of women during pregnancy? The presentation will explore the specificity of biological changes occurring during pregnancy that can critically impact maternal and fetal well-being and development and provide a rationale for why perinatal mental health should be viewed as a public health priority. \n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:The Impact of Menopause on Women at Work: A Guide Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Menopause is a life stage that all women\, after a certain age\, will experience\, and their impact on society has significant and far-reaching economic\, social\, and health care implications. The average age at menopause in the United States is 51\, and with 75% of women ages 45 to 54 participating in the U.S. workforce\, a significant portion of the labor force will work throughout their menopause transition and for years postmenopause. \nThe hormonal changes that take place during menopause can result in symptoms that disrupt the day-to-day activities for many individuals\, especially while at work. Increases in retirement age and life expectancy are putting a demand on employers to recognize the impact of menopause on women’s health. \nThe Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) created the Menopause Preparedness Toolkit to increase awareness about the impacts of menopause on women’s health and the Menopause Workplace Resource Guides for Women and Managers to address career-related challenges that women and their coworkers reported in the EMPACT Menopause Study survey. \nSWHR hosted a webinar to discuss these challenges in the workplace and explore strategies that employers and supervisors can implement to improve workplace environments for midlife and postmenopausal women.

SUMMARY:Supporting Women In the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Hear from SWHR at the event! Check out remarks from SWHR CEO and President Katie Schubert at the 1:49:00 minute mark in the video recording! \n  \nAcross all industries\, women are over 40% of the workforce. In some sectors such as health care\, women make up 75% or more of an organization’s employees. Despite this representation\, women’s health care and health care benefits are more expensive and often more restrictive. Attend this ½-day educational forum to hear about the disparity in health care cost and access\, and what you as an employer can do about it.
