SUMMARY:Champions in Care Forum: Why Caregiver Input Matters in Defining Value in Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:As the U.S. grapples with defining value in healthcare and medical interventions\, there is growing recognition that integrating caregiver experiences and perspectives are vital to understanding a patient’s disease or condition journey. Yet\, how to identify and collect relevant data from family caregivers to inform medical interventions remains in nascent stages. Join hosts for a discussion on the value and importance of caregiver experiences\, the current gaps in understanding of what matters most to caregivers\, and how best practices for collecting this information to inform clinical\, policy\, and regulatory decision-making. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:The Impact of Menopause on Women’s Health: A Work-Life-Health Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Menopause is a universal life stage for women with far-reaching economic\, social\, and health care implications on their personal and professional lives. Approximately 6000 women reach menopause every day\, and many with symptoms that range from hot flashes and genitourinary symptoms to brain fog and sleep disturbances. \nDespite the vast number of women experiencing life disruptions during the menopause transition\, accessible treatment options and education to navigate their care are limited. Moreover\, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics\, women aged 45-54 years have a 75% participation rate in the labor workforce. With the average age of menopause being 51\, it is important for employers to recognize women’s health experiences\, especially during the menopause transition\, for optimal talent recruitment and retention. SWHR’s Employee Perspectives and Challenges Concerning the Transition of Menopause (EMPACT Menopause) Study found that only 3% of employees or supervisors reported having menopause-specific policies in place at work. Organizational support in promoting midlife health and wellness and enabling women\, their coworkers\, and employers to contribute to its values and success is key to managing menopause in the workplace for inclusive and productive work environments for all employees. \nSWHR convened an interdisciplinary Menopause Equity Working Group of health care providers\, researchers\, patient advocates\, human resource specialists\, and health care policy leaders for a closed\, roundtable meeting in January 2025. During the roundtable\, the Working Group discussed the impact of menopause on women’s health\, with an emphasis on navigating patient care and the workplace. \nThis is an SWHR Event.

SUMMARY:Brooke Shields In Conversation with Dr. Sharon Malone at Sixth & I
DESCRIPTION:This event is taking place at Sixth & I. 600 I St NW\, Washington\, DC 20001. \nBrooke Shields has spent a lifetime in the public eye. Growing up as a child actor and model\, her every feature was scrutinized\, her every decision judged. Today\, Shields faces a different kind of scrutiny: that of being a “woman of a certain age.” \nAnd yet\, at fifty-nine\, she feels more comfortable in her skin and more empowered\, confident\, and free than she did decades ago in those famous Calvin Klein ads. In Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old\, she flips the script on what it means for a woman to grow older. This is an era\, insists Shields\, when women are reclaiming agency and power in the prime of their lives\, not receding into the shadows. Weaving together her own experiences with research and reporting\, Shields takes aim at the systemic factors that contribute to age-related bias to spark a new conversation about the power and promise of midlife. \nShields is the author of Down Came the Rain and There Was a Little Girl and was the subject of the 2023 Hulu documentary\, Pretty Baby. \nShields will be in conversation with Dr. Sharon Malone\, an OB/GYN\, Certified Menopause Practitioner\, Chief Medical Advisor at Alloy Women’s Health which focuses on women over 40\, and the author of the New York Times bestseller\, Grown Woman Talk. \n \nLearn More
