SUMMARY:Transforming Obesity Management Globally: Clinical Perspectives from The Obesity Society
DESCRIPTION:The Challenges We Face: Obesity affects roughly one-third of the total population in Latin America\, with a total of nearly 81 million people affected in Mexico and Brazil alone\, leading to an ever-increasing risk of cardiovascular disease\, kidney disease\, diabetes\, and other related comorbidities. \nThus\, it is incumbent upon healthcare providers across Latin America to recognize obesity as a chronic\, progressive disease and provide compassionate and comprehensive care to these patients to improve their health outcomes. \nProgram Description: This CME activity will enable primary care providers and relevant specialists with the knowledge and skills to address obesity as a chronic\, relapsing disease. Participants will learn about the distinct pathophysiology of obesity that contributes to cardiovascular\, renal\, and metabolic risk factors\, disease\, and complications. Expert faculty will teach participants how to accurately diagnose and document obesity and foster patient engagement through respectful\, nonstigmatizing communication. Finally\, the program will cover evidence-based strategies for comprehensive obesity management\, including nutrition and physical activity counseling\, behavioral therapy\, pharmacologic interventions\, and—when appropriate—metabolic and bariatric surgery. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:Beyond the Scale: The Economic Power of GLP-1 Therapies
DESCRIPTION:GLP-1 therapies are reshaping obesity treatment\, delivering meaningful weight loss\, reducing the risk of comorbidities like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease\, and unlocking billions in potential healthcare savings. Widespread use could also improve worker productivity\, boost economic output\, and lessen the ripple effects of obesity on individuals and the economy at large. \nBut current policy hasn’t kept pace. Lawmakers need to prioritize continued investment in GLP-1 research\, make sure these treatments are accessible to everyone who needs them\, and update CBO modeling with dynamic scoring to capture the true economic gains of reducing obesity. \nJoin ITIF on Capitol Hill for a timely discussion on how GLP-1 therapies can transform health and economic outcomes—and what policymakers should do to maximize their benefits. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:Why “Normal” Bones Can Still Break: The Hidden Role of Bone Quality
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that “normal” bones can still break? While bone mineral density (BMD) measured by DEXA remains the cornerstone of osteoporosis diagnosis\, it does not fully capture bone strength. Many individuals with normal or osteopenic BMD still experience fragility fractures\, highlighting the importance of bone quality—the structural and material properties that contribute to bone resistance. The Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) is an emerging\, validated tool that analyzes DEXA images to estimate trabecular microarchitecture. By integrating TBS with BMD\, clinicians can refine fracture risk prediction and optimize treatment strategies. \nThis session will explore how combining bone density and bone quality assessment provides a more comprehensive evaluation of skeletal health\, and how these insights can inform personalized prevention and management plans. \nLearn More
