SUMMARY:Menopause Matters in Librarianship
DESCRIPTION:Menopause is a significant life stage that will affect approximately 85–87% of the library workforce\, yet it remains under-discussed in professional settings. This online session invites library workers\, leaders\, and allies to engage in an open\, compassionate\, and evidence-informed conversation about menopause and its impact on health\, wellness\, productivity\, and workplace culture in librarianship. \nTogether\, this conversation aims to normalize menopause in the workplace\, highlight gaps in support\, and offer pathways toward more inclusive\, informed\, and humane library environments. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of why menopause matters in librarianship — and how individuals and institutions can foster healthier\, more supportive professional cultures. \nThe ALA Committee on the Status of Women in Librarianship is co-presenting this event. \nHear from SWHR! Programs Manager Syreen Goulmamine\, MPH\, CHES® is speaking at this event. \nSpeakers confirmed to date: \n\nDawn Behrend\, Associate Dean of Administrative Services\, Thomas G.Carpenter Library\, University of North Florida\nDeborah H. Charbonneau\, Ph.D.\, Professor\, Wayne State University School of Information Sciences\nSyreen Goulmamine\, MPH\, CHES® | Programs Manager\, Society for Women’s Health Research\n\nLearn More

SUMMARY:QB3 Symposium: Systemic Health Regulated by the Ovarian Pacemaker
DESCRIPTION:While often discussed through the lens of fertility and menopause\, the ovaries play a much broader role in regulating whole-body health—shaping metabolism\, cardiovascular function\, bone density\, immune regulation\, and brain aging. This becomes especially clear after menopause\, when the risks for age-related diseases — including cardiovascular disease\, dementia\, osteoporosis\, and metabolic diseases — rise significantly. \nYet we still lack a complete understanding of what drives ovarian aging and how it contributes to systemic decline. Hormone therapy remains the primary clinical option\, but innovation has been limited for decades. This is a major opportunity for new diagnostics and treatments that target the ovaries themselves. \nAdvances in single-cell and spatial sequencing\, organoid and model systems\, and clinical studies are now accelerating progress\, revealing new paths for early intervention and therapeutic development. \nThis convergence of scientific opportunity and unmet need inspired QB3 to focus this year’s symposium on ovarian health and the systemic consequences of ovarian aging. \nThis event is taking place in Berkeley\, Cali. \nLearn More
