Recommendations for Improving Women’s Bone Health Throughout the Lifespan

The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) published an article in the Journal of Women’s Health, reviewing the current state of science and practice concerning women’s bone health and osteoporosis care and exploring strategies to address gaps in screening, diagnosis, and treatment of bone disease in women. Specific recommendations include prioritizing efforts to build public awareness and clinical education of preventive bone health care for women; increasing access to screening tools; improving patient–provider communication; and treating osteoporosis using a broader risk stratification approach.

Insights for this paper were collected from a series of meetings, public events, and policy conversations that SWHR hosted with expert researchers, clinicians, patient advocates, and health care policy leaders in the women’s bone health space.
