POLICY LETTER

Published 3/16/21

SWHR President & CEO Kathryn G. Schubert submitted comments to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), on the Task Force’s new draft research plan, “Menopausal Hormone Therapy in Postmenopausal Women: Primary Prevention of Chronic Conditions.” SWHR’s comments encouraged the USPSTF to expand upon the current draft plan to provide a more nuanced exploration of the use of hormone therapy and its risks and benefits. Specifically, SWHR suggested the USPSTF include an operational definition of the term “chronic conditions,” include bone health within the primary outcomes, and consider how risks and benefits may vary for individuals of different subgroups – including those who are younger than 50 years old and those who experience surgical menopause.
