Fact Sheets

ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among women, and causes more deaths than any other gynecologic cancer. A woman’s risk of getting ovarian cancer during her lifetime is 1 in 78.

Innovations in diagnostics and screenings can provide access to health information and can help women make informed decisions about their gynecologic health and related cancer risks.

In recognition of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September, the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) published the Value of Diagnostics within Women’s Health: Ovarian Cancer Fact Sheet to highlight the impact of ovarian cancer on women’s health and share information about the role of tests like a transvaginal ultrasound, biopsy, and blood tests – on health across the lifespan.
