COVID-19 Testing: Current Policy Landscape and Challenges

November 17, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EST

In the face of the greatest public health threat in more than a century, clinical laboratories have introduced a range of new tests and techniques to meet widespread patient need for COVID-19 testing, including the development of the at-home specimen collection kits, the expanded use of specimen pooling and multiplex testing, and the launch of novel RNA extraction methods. Simultaneously, over the course of this public health crisis, the federal protections Congress promised to patients have significantly eroded, resulting in a patchwork coverage system that drives uncertainty and undermines return-to-work and return-to-school efforts.

Today, as COVID-19 cases surge across the country, access to accurate and reliable testing remains critical. Join Dr. Jay Wohlgemuth, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Research and Development, Medical and Population Health at Quest Diagnostics, and Julie Khani, President of the American Clinical Laboratory Association for an overview on the state of testing and a conversation about the important work that remains to ensure all patients have access to the tests they need.
