Fireside Chat: Menopause – A Patient’s Journey

  • This event has passed.

June 20, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Menopause affects 1 million people each year in the United States,1 and up to 80% of them may experience hot flashes or night sweats (Vasomotor Symptoms, VMS)2. Although VMS are considered a hallmark of menopause, the etiology behind what is causing them is not well understood.

During this program, Patricia Geraghty, MSN, FNP-BC, WHNP, will review the hormonal changes that occur in the HPO (hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian) axis that result in menopausal symptoms, including VMS. She will also review the latest understanding about how VMS may result from dysregulation of the brain’s thermoregulatory center. Throughout the program, she will provide examples of how patients may be counseled on the hormonal changes of menopause and how the brain may be involved in mediating VMS.

Since the average age of menopause in the United States is 512, individuals may experience menopausal symptoms in the workplace. The Society of Women’s Health Research (SWHR) recently conducted an Employee Perspectives and Challenges Concerning the Transition of Menopause (EMPACT Menopause) Study to better understand menopause in the workplace. Ms. Kathryn G. Schubert, MPP, CAE, President and CEO of SWRH, will review the EMPACT study findings during this fireside chat.

Following the program, there will be a live Q&A discussion with the panel.
