SWHR provided comments to the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development following the June 24 public meeting of the Task Force on Research Specific to Pregnant and Lactating Women (PRGLAC).

SWHR applauded the work of the task force in advising the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) on best practices to lessen the knowledge gaps regarding safe and effective therapies for pregnant and lactating women.

These comments reiterate SWHR’s broad support of all 15 recommendations that the task force presented in its September 2018 report to HHS and Congress, as well as emphasize the importance of the task force’s second phase of work to outline a forthcoming implementation plan of these recommendations.

Additionally, SWHR highlighted the importance of the task force’s work in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic and the need to explore ways to reduce liability risk within this type of research when considering implementation strategies.
