SWHR Thanks HHS for Renewal of Public Health Emergency Declaration for COVID-19

SWHR and 90 other stakeholders thanked Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar for renewing the public health emergency (PHE) declaration for the COVID-19 pandemic. These organizations had urged this action in a previous letter. The PHE was set to expire on July 25, 2020, and has now been extended for another 90 days. This renewal will allow the government to increase the pace of research on SARS-CoV-2; accelerate development of medical countermeasures; streamline efforts to bring novel diagnostics, vaccine candidates, and therapeutic options to market; and ensure that the public has access to health care and other social services.
