Fact Sheets
Lung cancer is the second most common non-skin cancer in women, and the leading cause of cancer death in the United States – for both women and men. One in 17 women will develop lung cancer in her lifetime. For women who smoke, this risk increases.
Innovations in diagnostics provide access to health information and can help women make informed decisions about their lung health and care.
In recognition of World Lung Cancer Day on August 1, the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) published the Value of Diagnostics within Women’s Health: Lung Cancer Fact Sheet to highlight the impact of lung cancer on women’s health and share information about the role of lung health screenings and tests – like an imaging test, cytology test, and bronchoscopy – on health across the lifespan.
This fact sheet is part of the Value of Diagnostics within Women’s Health Series, created to share educational information about the value of innovative diagnostics across disease states and conditions. This year’s series focuses on cancer and healthy aging.
