Narcolepsy is a chronic disorder that is often misinterpreted in children as laziness or lack of motivation. Teachers can mistake symptoms as behavioral or cognitive problems, and many adolescents with narcolepsy report difficulty performing in school.

Narcolepsy can have a significant impact on a child’s academic life, so communication and support from schools are critical. The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) created the Supporting Children with Narcolepsy at School Fact Sheet to support narcolepsy caregivers as they navigate reasonable accommodations and care for their families.

Do you have a sleep health story to share?

Your story can also help educate and inform other women who may be going through a similar experience.

SWHR is asking women to share their personal heart health journeys, to be posted on the SWHR website. In addition to patient stories, SWHR is interested in the stories of those who serve as caregiver for a family member (parent, spouse, child, etc.). Your story is powerful and we hope to share with policymakers, researchers, providers and most importantly, other women.
