SWHR Comments on USPSTF Draft Recommendations for Sleep Apnea Screening

SWHR’s Sleep Network provided comments to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) on its draft recommendation on screening for sleep apnea in adults.

SWHR noted the need for more emphasis on the under-recognition of sleep apnea, particularly in women and minorities, and the negative impact of delayed diagnosis. In addition, SWHR recommended that USPSTF clarify that an appropriate patient medical history includes evaluation of symptoms such as sleepiness and snoring as well as sleep quality and duration.
