The Power of Research: The Need for Gender Equity Photo Gallery

On April 24, 2024, the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) joined Maria Shriver and the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement (WAM) at Cleveland Clinic to host The Power of Research: The Need for Gender Equity.

The event focused on the importance of gender equity in medical research and the impactful work of the WAM Research Grants Recipients.

First Lady of the United States Jill Biden, EdD gave remarks at the event, sharing insight on her recent women’s health efforts and the new White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research.

SWHR President and CEO, Kathryn Schubert, MPP, CAE, Cleveland Clinic Chief of Staff Beri Ridgeway, MD, and WAM founder Maria Shriver all gave opening remarks at the events.

Maria Shriver led a panel discussion featuring Roberta Brinton, PhD, Director of the Center for Innovation in Brain Science at the University of Arizona, Lucy Perez, PhD, Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, and Linda Goler Blount, President of the Black Women’s Health Imperative. Chief Philanthropic Officer of Starkey Tani Austin also spoke at the event. Patient advocate Brenda Marquez-Rey shared her Alzheimer’s story. Attendees also heard from the 2024 and 2023 WAM Research Grants Recipients on their latest work in women’s health and Alzheimer’s disease.
