Climate Change & Maternal Health

Climate change is having a profound impact on the environment, and in turn, health. In HHS Region 2 (New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico & the US Virgin Islands), climate change is linked to warmer temperatures, rising sea levels, declining air and water quality, and an increase in extreme weather events – particularly heat and precipitation.
These changes directly affect the health and wellbeing of individuals living across communities. Yet climate change does not affect everyone equally. Climate change exacerbates existing social vulnerabilities and generates differential risks across the lifespan of individuals.
This webinar is part of a series that seeks to understand how climate change affects the health of specific populations – children, pregnant individuals (and their babies), and older adults, for health and human service providers and allied stakeholders in HHS Region 2. These populations face elevated risks, and often bear the burden of disproportionate impacts.
