At midnight on October 1, government funding officially expired after Congress failed to reach an agreement on a full-year spending bill or a short-term spending measure, known as a continuing resolution, to keep the government funded for fiscal year (FY) 2026.
On July 31, the Senate Appropriations Committee advanced the fiscal year (FY) 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Appropriations Act with strong bipartisan support in a 26–3 vote.
