A New Vision for Women’s Health Research: Transformative Change at the NIH—Release Webinar

Despite significant advances in healthcare, critical gaps in women’s health remain. From hormonal health to heart disease, women’s health research has historically been underfunded and overlooked. A new report from the National Academies, “A New Vision for Women’s Health Research: Transformative Change at the National Institutes of Health (NIH),” reviews the state of women’s health and assesses funding levels for women’s health research at NIH. The authoring committee was asked to provide recommendations on NIH structure, policies, and programs to optimize women’s health research as well as recommendations for research priorities for conditions that are female-specific, more common among women, or that impact women differently. The committee was also asked to provide recommendations to build, support, and maintain a robust NIH workforce for women’s health research and identify the allocation of funding needed to address research gaps.
