Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both women and men in the United States, resulting in one in every five deaths. Despite this similarity, women experience differential treatment when interacting with the health care system.

In general, women are more likely to experience delayed heart disease diagnoses and therapeutic interventions than men and are less likely to receive guideline-directed therapies for heart disease.

This fact sheet explores the gender gap in heart health and gives tips for how women can become empower to embrace their hearts.
