A Call to Action from the Society for Women’s Health Research

Depressive disorders are a group of mood disorders characterized by significant impairments in an individual’s ability to perform daily tasks, driven by a persistently sad or irritable mood. While there are several sub-diagnosis categories, the term “depressive disorders” typically refers to major depressive disorder (MDD) and persistent depressive disorder (PDD).

Despite documented sex and gender disparities in depressive disorders, there remain persistent gaps in our knowledge and approaches to mitigating the burden of these diseases for women. This report aims to highlight and address gaps related to understanding sex differences in PDD.

This document was created based off the data and insights from the SWHR Women’s Health Dashboard, which offers a platform to explore the latest national and state data on diseases and health conditions that have significant impacts on women’s health across the lifespan.
