SWHR Announces 2023 Honoree in Industry in Advance of Annual Awards Gala



Monday, March 20, 2023 – The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) will recognize Horizon Therapeutics, a global biotechnology company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of medicines that address critical needs for people impacted by rare, autoimmune, and severe inflammatory diseases, as the third health care leader honoree at its 2023 Annual Awards Gala on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

SWHR will present the Health Industry Visionary Award to Horizon Therapeutics for its dedication to developing innovative medicines and providing compassionate support to patients. The company has also supported SWHR’s work to improve women’s health across the lifespan, specific to women’s eye health and autoimmune diseases and conditions.

Leaders from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Office of Women’s Health and University of Illinois Chicago Center for Research on Women and Gender will join Horizon as honorees for the evening. SWHR will present the Health Public Service Visionary Award to Dr. Kaveeta Vasisht for her long-lasting commitment to public health, with an emphasis on her myriad achievements during her time as Associate Commissioner for Women’s Health at the FDA. SWHR will present the Health Education Visionary Award to Dr. Pauline Maki for her significant research contributions that are improving our understanding surrounding key issues in women’s health, particularly around cognition, mood, and brain function during pregnancy and menopause.

In addition, SWHR is honored to have Julie Louise Gerberding, MD, MPH serve as the keynote speaker for the evening. Dr. Gerberding is the CEO of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a non-profit organization that builds public-private research partnerships to support the mission of the NIH.

SWHR supporters will gather in person for the 2023 Annual Awards Gala to celebrate the achievements of Horizon, Dr. Vasisht, Dr. Maki and the bright future of women’s health research. The event will be held on April 26, 2023, at the InterContinental Washington, D.C. – The Wharf, with a reception beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET and dinner following at 7:00 p.m. ET.
