SWHR to Host Women’s Health Event at the United Nations Science Summit this Fall

Wednesday, August 7, 2024 – The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) announced today that it is hosting “Women’s Unique Health Needs and the SDGs,” a program during the Science Summit at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) this fall.

This program is co-hosted by the ECHAlliance and SWHR and will take place in person in New York City, NY, USA, and virtually on September 24, 2024, beginning at 9:00am ET.

Registration is now open for the event here.

The event will include panels and keynotes, as experts from across the health care industry discuss developments and opportunities to advance women’s health care and research. Discussions will focus on addressing disparities; the role of women in health care decision-making; access to preventive care; setting national and global health priorities for women’s health research and care; and representation in the health care workforce.

Notable speakers during the event will include Dr. Ru-fong Cheng, Director of Women’s Health Innovations for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Anuradha Gupta, President of Global Immunization for the Sabin Vaccine Institute, and Dr. Eleanor Nwadinobi, President of the Medical Women’s International Association. Participants will have the opportunity to help identify areas for domestic and global collaborations and engage with other health care experts in women’s health. Insights gained from these sessions will be compiled into a summary report for the United Nations conveners.

SWHR would like to thank the sponsors of this event, including Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson. SWHR would also like to thank the Journal of Women’s Health for being the event’s media sponsor. Select sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more details and to secure your participation, email development@swhr.org.

The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) is a national nonprofit and thought leader advancing women’s health through science, policy, and education while promoting research on sex differences to optimize women’s health. Founded in 1990, SWHR is making women’s health mainstream by addressing unmet needs and research gaps in women’s health. The success of SWHR’s science and policy programs is grounded in our ability to convene and leverage the knowledge of our interdisciplinary networks – diverse groups of researchers, clinicians, patient advocates, policy professionals, and other health care leaders with expertise related to specific diseases, conditions, or health topics that either exclusively, differently, or disproportionately affect women. Thanks to SWHR’s efforts, women are now routinely included in most major medical research studies in the United States and more scientists are considering sex as a biological variable in their research.
