Congressional Briefing: Advances in the Treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Retinal Diseases

On Wednesday, September 21, The Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR) will host two important events in conjunction with the Eighth Annual Emerging Vision Scientists Day on Capitol Hill. 

Congressional Briefing: Advances in the Treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Retinal Diseases
12:30 – 1:30 pm, House Rayburn Office Building, Room 2060
Held during International AMD Awareness Week 2022 and Healthy Aging Month, this Briefing begins AEVR’s Eighth Annual Emerging Vision Scientists Day on Capitol Hill. The briefing features James T. Handa, MD (Wilmer Eye Institute/Johns Hopkins University) who will speak about the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of AMD. American Macular Degeneration Foundation Patient Liaison Laura Carabello will also provide an AMD patient’s perspective.

Eighth Annual Emerging Vision Scientists Reception
5:00 – 7:00 pm, House Rayburn Office Building, Room 2045
The reception, hosted by AEVR President Paul Lee, MD, JD (Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan) showcases the work of 21 early-stage vision scientists from across the nation who will display posters and discuss their breakthrough research to save sight and restore vision. The event, sponsored by a grant from Research to Prevent Blindness, focuses on answering the question, “How will research delay, reduce, and prevent the $717 billion annual cost of eye disease and vision impairment projected by year 2050?
