Part 1, Overview of Perinatal Mental Health | February 26: This webinar will provide information on prevalence, epidemiology and risk factors related to perinatal mental health disorders (PMHD). The content also includes discussion of the impact of untreated PMHD, review of screening tools, treatment guidelines and barriers to treatment. The focus is on providing whole-patient counseling and tailoring treatment and/or referrals that meet the needs of the individual patient.
Part 2, Perinatal Depression | March 26: This webinar will provide an overview of perinatal depression, including review of screening tools, treatment options and decision-making tools. The needs of breastfeeding patients will be discussed. The content also includes information on the use of integrative approaches such as psychopharmacology, sleep support systems, nutrition and nutraceuticals including fish oil, Vitamin D, folate, and SAM-e.
Part 3, Perinatal Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder | April 23: This webinar will focus on perinatal anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and related conditions. Review of screening tools, use and types of medications (SSRI/SNRI) including nutraceuticals will be included in the content. General guidelines for medication use, safety concerns, side effects, impact on the neonate, and the risks of untreated/uncontrolled PMHD will be discussed. A highlight of this webinar will be presentation of a case study.
Part 4, Perinatal Bipolar Disorder and Postpartum Psychosis | May 28: This webinar will focus on bipolar disorder, type I and II, and postpartum psychosis. Diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorders will be reviewed, screening (both timing and tools) will be discussed. The use of medications and the importance of continuing use of medications during pregnancy will be discussed. Bipolar disorder is a risk factor for postpartum psychosis and childbirth is one of the most potent precipitating events for mania and postpartum psychosis in patients with bipolar disorder. A case study will be presented that will highlight many of the concepts presented during the webinar.
