World Heart Federation Forum on Sex Differences in Cardiovascular Disease

May 14, 2025 - May 15, 2025
The WHF Forum on Sex Differences in Cardiovascular Disease will provide a unique platform to explore the important and often undervalued role of sex differences in cardiovascular health.
Men tend to experience certain cardiovascular conditions earlier in life, while women to face a higher risk for other types of heart disease that have unique biological mechanisms and often lack tailored treatment options. There is a growing recognition that women are underrepresented in cardiovascular clinical trials—historically making up less than 30% of participants—leading to a gap in data and hindering the development of effective, sex-specific treatments.
This forum will bring together experts, researchers, clinicians, and policymakers to delve into current and potential future research, discuss treatment and prevention strategies, and address disparities in cardiovascular risk and outcomes between men and women.
This gathering will work to inspire actionable discussions, paving the way for improved research, policies, and clinical practices that foster a more inclusive and equitable approach to cardiovascular care. WHF will also share a case study on gender differences recently carried out in partnership with the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands.
This event will happen prior to the World Heart Summit 2025.
