FACT SHEET
In the United States, 6.5 million women of reproductive age have endometriosis. Given its prevalence, impacts, and financial burden, endometriosis deserves greater prioritization across federal research and public health agencies to improve outcomes for all women.
The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) published the Closing the Gaps in Endometriosis Research & Care Fact Sheet to highlight the role that policy can play in improving outcomes for individuals living with endometriosis.
While endometriosis impacts such a large group of individuals across the country, there are still significant gaps in provider education surrounding endometriosis diagnosis and treatment.
SWHR's latest toolkit, Endometriosis Toolkit: A Guide For Teens, was developed to empower teenagers who have menstrual health questions or are living with endometriosis to better understand their health and navigate their care.
In this secondary blog, SWHR shares highlights from the interdisciplinary working group roundtable discussion held about endometriosis, in September 2023.
